DESCRIPTION/FIRST IMPRESSIONS
Copter (exterior)
- Visual: Nick Zerhakker is a sentient V-22 Osprey, an American military tiltrotor aircraft, fifty-some feet long. His exterior is pure black, with a grey nosecone. The only anomaly that breaks the sleek, imposing look, from outside, is a small metal box a few inches tall bolted to his hull just to the right of his main hatch - a mezuzah, which looks something like this.
- Olfactory: Diesel fumes and metal.
- Aural: Nick speaks in a young man’s tenor, with a distinct Philly accent. The voice is completely synthesized, but manages to sound very natural and human... except when he tries to swear. Filters in his programming catch the offending words and replace them with innocuous substitutions (represented like this). The result is slightly jarring, and sounds like a poorly-redubbed, edited-for-network-TV movie.
Violet Bee
- Visual: “Violet Bee” is a gynoid robot built for espionage work. On its own, it has no programming; it is merely a shell which can be remotely operated. To the unaided eye, it looks exactly like a young, attractive woman, short, slim, and flat-chested, with blue eyes and long blonde hair. Underneath its clothing, it lacks nipples and genitals, making its robotic nature obvious. Nick mostly dresses it in jeans and nerdy t-shirts, tying the hair back into a low ponytail.
- Olfactory: Violet doesn’t smell of anything in particular except faint hints of plastic, rubber, and metal, lacking any trace of sweat or body odor.
- Aural: It’s not totally clear in comic canon whether Nick’s voice is still the same or not, but it seems likely. He’s occasionally mistaken for female even so, meaning the effect is androgynous at best. The swear filter is still in full effect.
- Demeanor: Nick’s default expression is a disgruntled scowl, he yells and curses (tries to curse), and he slouches constantly - in other words, he shows all the body language of a defensive, grouchy nerd, rather than the pretty young woman the drone appears to be.
Cabin interior
- Visual: Nick’s interior is a mess. Posters hang over haphazard piles of board game boxes, DVDs, Costco-size bags of snacks, and video games. Papers, game pieces, D&D miniatures, and discarded scraps of food are scattered everywhere. In other words, nerds have been making themselves at home. Between the two large pilot seats up front is a sturdy, opaque steel tank containing Nick’s brain, suspended in sterile fluid - the only remnant of his formerly-human body. Hanging over the flight panel are a set of dog tags engraved with his name. Further back, there are various compartments built into the hull, some of them hidden, and a minifridge stocked with alcohol sits in the very back.
- Olfactory: Nick does periodically get steam-cleaned, but those scraps of junk food build up and get stuck in his seats, so the cabin tends to smell less than fresh. Even when he has just been cleaned, the air from the ventilation system tends to smell of taco-flavor Doritos - it’s “homey.”
